The idea of "El Refugio" (The Refuge) came about in the year 1999, when we -Gloria and Raúl- decided to leave the city pursuing a dream we had been cherishing for a long time: to live in the country.

In November that year, after much searching, we eventually found the place that convinced us both, in Atexca, in a 7.4 acre country estate comprising woods, farming land and meadowland, all set on top of a hill overlooking some spectacular views. So we set about working from the outset - making adobe bricks with our own hands to start building, our hearts set on getting a place ready where people could arrive to share with us our home, what we know and what we love.
